Damp-Heat

Damp-Heat is a medical condition characterized by the combination of Dampness and Heat, which creates complex symptoms. It is prevalent in summer and late summer and can linger for a long time. It can lead to Phlegm, injure Yin, and frequently cause toxic heat with symptoms such as heat, swelling, pain, and pus. Damp-Heat can easily damage the Stomach and Spleen and manifest with symptoms such as greasy skin, fatigue, muscle aches, low-grade fever, poor appetite, abdominal distention, sticky taste, thirst, turbid urine, loose stools, and skin eruptions such as papules, vesicles, and pustules. The diagnosis and treatment of Damp-Heat depend on the prevalence of Dampness or Heat. In cases of Dampness, bland-neutral or pungent-fragrant herbs and formulae are used, while in cases of Heat, bitter-cold herbs, and formulae are used.
